For the Science Fiction genre I have chosen: E.T. The Extra Terrestrial (1982)
Codes and convetions
The codes and conventions within this film poster are the title, and the credits of the film and the header. A symbolic code is used to show what is beneath the surface of what we see, for example, the character's actions show you how the characters relationship is magical due to the white light coming off the ends of their touching fingers.
Sub genre
Extra terrestial
Film examples
Other films of the same genre are Alien, Predator and Contact.
Audiences
The target audience for this film is for all ages as it is a family film in my opinion because it has a touching story which is not to inappropriate for children and it appeals to all ages as it has an interesting story line of a human in contact with an extra terrestrial.
Colours
The dark blue background colour looks successful in comparison to the characters hands colours, and the white text of the films title, they contrast effectively together because the background makes the bright colours stand out.

Lighting
The dark sky's low key lighting helps to represent the plot because the extra terrestrial comes from the sky at night and the high key lighting of the characters does not only emphasize the image but gives the poster a magical effect.

Characters
Only the characters hands are shown in the image however their hands touching automatically shows the audience that the film is about a relationship between a human and an alien which interests them and persuades them to watch the film therefore I think that this poster is very effective.
